Grand Central Terminal: 100 Years of a New York Landmark

The New York Transit Museum, in partnership with Metro North Railroad and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, is planning a celebration of the Centennial of Grand Central Terminal, which opened with great fanfare in February 1913. Grand Central Terminal will tell the story of a New York City treasure, the "gateway to a million lives," and how it was saved, restored and adapted for the 21st century and beyond. The book will cover Grand Central Terminal's 100 year history, showing how it continues to function for all New Yorkers as a town square, an epicenter of commerce, an international visitor destination, the city's most elegant landmark and an engineering marvel.

Through ten turbulent decades, it has continued to serve a diverse constituency of passengers, tourists, retail tenants, sports fans, the work force, the surrounding community and citizens of New York. This beautifully designed book will include approximately 200 photographs from museum archives and Frank English's collection of thousands upon thousands of photos which he took as the Metro North's photographer for over 25 years.
